Astro Design Video Signal Generator Guide Setup Guide for the Astro Design VG-870B/871B/873/874/876/877The Astro Design Video Signal Generator test patterns can be automatically controlled by CalMAN Display Calibration Software. The VG-876 and VG-877 generators can provide HDR test patterns to HDR10 compatible displays.
CalMAN provides a default measurement delay time of 0.5 seconds to accommodate the test pattern settling time of the Astro generator and an attached display. To optimize the delay time for a particular configuration, potentially speeding up the measurement time, click the Optimize button.

Note: For best display calibration results, set the Astro generator for Full range and uncheck the Limited Range option on the CalMAN Source Settings tab. After the calibration, set the Astro generator to its desired level mode, either Full or Limited Range.
The Astro Design VG-876 and VG-877 can output HDR10 test patterns to enable the HDR10 mode on compatible HDR displays. The following HDR10 fields are available on the Source Settings tab only with the VG-876 and VG-877 generators.

The Gamma section will let you see what the Gamma is for your display. If you can adjust your Gamma on a point by point basis, such as in the JVC RS25 that we used, then you can dial in the points individually, and on the RS25 it includes 5% and 95% values, which are used by that popular projector. As I just had a few set Gamma modes, I tried those and did a measurement until I got the one that was closest to 2.2, and there were no other adjustments that I could make. However, this was a limitation of my CMS, and not the software, and hopefully more displays will allow adjustable Gamma points in the future. I should point out that with version 1.2 of ChromaPure, it now has a built in pattern generator that let me use the HDMI output of my laptop to calibrate the display, and the software would automate taking readings with the meter as well, which made for a very fast, simple process.
Note that if you want to create a 3D LUT for a display that is directly connected (e.g. for Resolve's GUI viewer), you should not use the Resolve pattern generator, and select the actual display device instead which will allow for quicker measurements (Resolve's pattern generator has additional delay).
